Do I
have what it takes?
Meaning there is a place in the
industry for almost everyone. Your general segments
of the adult industry for talent would include adult films,
magazines, Internet, live web cam, night clubs, events,
personal appearances, private shows and bachelor parties.
Of course there are segments and niches within the general
categories. Some diversify into several segments.
That being said, here are some examples of what you need
inside to succeed.
Again, an above average desire for sex, money and fame.
But who doesn't have those traits? The next step is figuring
out what part(s) of the industry you'd be best at. Some
start out dancing or escorting. Some jump straight into
film and/or magazines. Some enter contests. Some start
out on the Internet doing adult sites or starting their
own, and some make money never leaving the house doing
live web cam work.
Perhaps you'll want to narrow those down to a specific
niche, venue or specialty. If you want to dance, what
city and what club. If you want to feature dance or make
guest appearances, you'll want to obtain professional
credits such as film, magazines and credits. The
more professional credits you have, the higher your rates
go.
Should you get into the adult film business as talent,
you may want to decide some things before you do. What
kind of scenes do you want to do? Boy/Girl, Girl/Girl,
Masturbation and solo, threesomes, foursomes, gang bangs,
Interracial, gay, lesbian and so on. It can be broken
down further inside those. For instance, a threesome could
be straight, gay, or bi-sexual. It is important to set
your own limitations and communicate those with your agent,
director, significant other or your co-star. Performers
should be aware of any do's and don't's before the sex
starts. Couples where only one is going to perform, should
talk openly and honestly about mutual ground rules.
On a personal note, the one not performing in the relationship
should be sensitive to the other being the one with the
talent, and nerve, to put their body into it. Support
that person and what they want. Remember, your
each other's partner, not parent.
While there is great sex on a porn set,
It is also professional sex. There is sex at home and there
is sex at work. Protect yourself, your co-workers and those
you have sex at home with. Condoms are great. STD testing even better.
Some porn stars, male and female, require testing and condoms although most
producers prefer non-condom scenes. They won't say anything to you but you may
not be invited back. Big name stars get away with double protection easier than
the new person.
So, you want to have lots of sex, you can easily do it
front of people, you want to make money, and you don't
mind lots of attention. You know what your do's and don't
are and if your a couple, you've been open and honest
about your expectations and ground rules. If after reading
all of the above you're still horny, then you have what
it takes to be in porn.

How do
I act when I get there?
This is where the art of communication
[discussed above] comes in. Not all, but most porn
directors will gently coach you into doing more, and more,
and more. At least if they're a good director they will.
Any producer will want the most stuff for their buck that
they can get. You have to respect that to a limit because
they have make a profit. Making movies cost money. You
should however, stick to your decisions and limits until
you are ready to take it to another level. A good director
or producer will not fault you for that. Communication!
That being said, they will rightfully expect you to give
it your very best at what you like doing.
When you get to work, you'll need to bring some things
with you. Two forms of identification such as your license
and social security card and a copy of a recent (less
than 30 days) HIV, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Chlamydia
tests results. Those tests are taken together through
blood and urine and the results will be on the same sheet.
Showing up without proper ID and tests results means you
go home that day in most cases.
There are however, companies
outside of L. A. that will shoot without tests and use
condoms. We strongly suggest using STD tests and verifying
that the tests results are legitimate and belong to the
person holding them. You will also want to bring some
changes of clothes and females may want to bring makeup.
Directors or producers will usually tell you in advance
whether you are doing your own makeup that day and what
kind of outfits to bring if specific to the film. You may
want to bring your own toys as well.
You co-star may also want to know what turns you on, what
the rules are, so on and so forth. Above
all, pay attention to your hygiene. Other talent will
put you on their "no work with" list if you smell bad,
have infections and many other issues we hear about.
You'll want to make a good impression with everyone on
the set so that you'll be invited back. Who you're working
with has a lot to do with the outcome. Talk to each other
before the cameras roll. That doesn't mean stalk them.
That means a conversation about likes, don't likes, where
the buttons are, and turn-on's. You'll run into the quiet
ones when the cameras are not rolling. They'll gladly
fill you in on the don'ts but no help with the do's. You
can politely tell them you want to be invited back. Of
course a masturbation scene is all you.
Personal appearances and solo web cam work is also all
you. Only now you make an impression on your audience,
even if there's only one person in the audience or in
you chat room. All, while not putting up with any shit
from anyone. Just like every other field in the adult
industry, you make the rules. A fine line between not
putting up with crap and being invited back. Being invited back is imperative to reaching
your goals for success and making money.

What is
the industry looking for?
When we say there is a place
for almost everyone. we mean if you can think it,
want to do it, and it's legal, there is something for
everyone. Here is a partial list of niches in the adult
film categories that are available. In no particular order.
Straight Gay All Girl Amateur Anal Asian BBW BDSM Big
Butt Bisexual Black Interracial Blow Jobs Cat Fights Cougars
Dancers/Models Exhibitionist Feature Films Gang bangs
Genital Punishment Glamour Gonzo Moms Grannies Dads Leather
Latin Solo Masturbation Muscles Machines Point of View
Peeing Shaving Softcore Rough Sex Small Tits Big Tits
Swingers Trannies Wet and Messy Amputee and everything
in between. There are way too many make a complete list
but I think you get the picture. If you do it well, there
is place for you in the adult entertainment industry.
Like any other segment of the business a performer is
involved in, you make the rules. There are no judgmental
issues no matter what you are into or where you fit in.
There are only opinions on your personal performance.
My guess would be that reviews and critiques come with
the territory of having sex in front of people, performing
on stage, or anything you do to achieve fame.

I want to be behind the camera.
Being behind the camera covers
a lot of ground. There's photographers and videographers,
and a bunch of other behind the scenes people. Editors,
drivers, printers, authors and so on. All of which that
depends on the size of the
company. From the guy with the camera on a tripod that does it all
including the sex, to much larger budget films like Digital
Playground's feature films. If your just starting out, anyone can
produce, assuming you can buy a camera and read the instructions
that come with it. The hard part is selling it. Now if you are one
of the talent and you can talk someone else to do it with you, it's
not a big deal if you don't distribute it. But the, you couldn't very
well call yourself a producer, could you? There are several ways however,
of distributing what you've produced. On the Internet such as Pay sites,
viral sites, content licensing , and V.O.D. sites for example.
Beyond that, there's DVD distribution, foreign sales and licensing,
Hospitality, cable, etc., etc. You'll find some contact information on
some of these on the about the business page.
So now that you have a camera and know what you're going to do with the
scenes you produce, you may also want to know that you have a gazillion
competitors.
Not to worry, you only have to either come up with something no one else
is doing, or be able to do it much better, and have a bunch of money to promote it.
You got this though, so on to the next trick, finding talent. If you are in Los Angeles,
or another area that would a hub for porn talent, you're set. Call an agent and work it out.
If you are producing from the woods somewhere, you may have to plan your project a little more
carefully. There are boards and job sites to help locate talent in your area but you may have
issues with laws in those areas. Maybe not, just saying.
Yet another option would be to go to work for another producer. Here, you will either need to know
someone or be very good at what you do and get the word out. There are also behind the scenes
jobs posted on the sites mentioned.

Does it
matter where I
live?
Again, that would depend on what in adult you want to do. If you're interested in
developing your own web site, doing web cam work, dancing or making personal appearances, no, it does not
matter where you live. You may want to travel to major markets for dancing or personal appearances.
If your thing is to be a porn star, you may want to consider relocating to California. Although there is
Internet reality site work in Florida. You can travel to either however, once you get started it will be easier to be there
as gigs usually come up with a day's notice. Sometimes just hours when someone doesn't show up.

Are the Industry standards different
for male and female talent?
That would actually depend on what
segment of the adult industry. one would be interested
in. For instance, work from home web cam programs. No difference
in standards whatsoever. The rules and the way in are the same.
In fact, male talent can actually make more
as there are currently not as many on-line performers as their counterparts.
Go to any of the top web cam sites that use more live models than licensed
web cam feeds, (there is a difference but that's on another page) and do the math
yourself.
In the porn segment, it would also depend on what category of films you are interested in starring in.
Films that involve only straight sex, it would be easier for females to get their foot in the door. A
guy would either have to know someone, list with all the agents and be on standby all the time for when
one of the usually male porn stars calls in sick and the director cannot reach any proven alternates.
Sometimes you can watch the social networking and adult job listing sites and find an ad for new male talent.
The easiest way for a guy to get into the straight porn set is to have a pretty girl go into it with you. She can
stipulate that she'll only work with her partner until she gets comfortable. That gives you a short window
to prove yourself as a male talent and gets her settled in at the same time.
The reason a guy may run into resistance trying to enter
the straight movie crowd, is that producers and directors
cannot afford to waste several hours taking a chance on
you being able to perform. Yes, there is Viagra and other
useful tools of the trade. That is why you see hundreds
more male talent on film and on the Internet as you did
before Viagra. But even then, we have seen more times
than not a failed scene. Sometimes we see ourselves as
the next Ron Jeremy in our fantasies. It's a little different
when someone is holding a camera inches from your balls
and your ass.
We did an experiment several years ago. We ran an ad to
recruit new male talent in small towns across the country
for hard-core porn shoots. While we had no shortage of
guys wanting to participate, one out of a hundred made
it in the industry and are still doing films and making
lots of money today. Not to say 99 completely failed.
For some it was just obvious that it would be a one-time
thing for them. A fantasy fulfilled. Reminding us of the
second reason why directors and producers do not like
taking chances on new guys. Others had their heart into
the business as well the female talents we used for the
experiment but found it was harder than it looks on the
edited finished product.
Viagra also cannot "fix" the problem once it becomes a problem. Directors and producers that have
experience know this and know that it is just stalling the inevitable. If you do have what it takes however, the blue one
will make a difference after the second and third scene of the day.
There is a bigger demand for guys within the reputable gay film companies. Again, there are not as many good
looking guys available for gay films as there are pretty girls for straight and all girl companies. The upside
is that guys doing gay films earn a lot more than guys and most girls doing straight films. Two to three times as
much depending on what you have.

Really, I got this.
How and where do I get started?
There are as many ways to do that
as there is to perform. First and most importantly, when
responding to adult classifieds, be aware of scams and
people generally up to no good. The adult industry is
no different than any other. It is as safe as you make
it. One of the contributors to this site had a good outlook
on the subject."If I only did business with people I trust,
I would not be in business long. Just don't leave yourself
open to being taken advantage of and stay a step ahead
of those you can't trust." We thought that pretty much
sums it up.
That being said, if you want us to check out an ad you're
not sure of or need help verifying, send us the link to
the ad and we'll check it for you. You'll want to include
the ad number or title, page and any other information
to make sure we have the right ad. You can reach us through
the contact page.
We'll put links at the top right of this page that are
trusted resources to getting started.
